Zidovudine（AZT）is an antiviral drug, which has high activity to reverse transcript virus and HIV in vitro. Within cells infected by the virus, Zidovudine is converted to the Zidovudine triphosphate by the cellular thymidine kinase, which can selectively inhibit HIV reverse transcriptase. In this way HIV chain synthesis can be terminated.
